Dewi Sant fancied at Gisborne

“The Press’ 1 Special Service HASTINGS. The withdrawal of Miss Otakiri from the D. J. Barry Memorial Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Poverty Bay meeting today, leaves the issue wide epen. Dewi Sant, Sandpiper, and Marsbridge may now dispute the finish, with Buza and Sea Chief. also prominent in what should be a keenly-fought contest. Dewi Sant and Sandpipei have each shown useful form lately, and there is no questioning the merit of Marsbridge’s fifth in the Rotorua Cup. It was the effort of an an improver. Buza was a shade disappointing at Wairoa yet, for a recent hack graduate, he was far from disgraced. He is trained at Gisborne, which Will be much in his favour, for he is bred to be good and is thoroughly seasoned.

If Codeene were to run, he would be a better than outside chance, in spite of the fact that he is an unknown quantity at this distance. He runs out his races strongly enough to suggest that he coula master a mile and a Suarter and 80 yards. Should lere be rain, Game Hunter and Man ‘O’ Man woud also have to be taken into account.
