Secretary 24 years

(N.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. The Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party (Mr A J. McDonald) announced his retirement today. Mr McDonald had been secretary of the party since 1947, and was assistant secretary for six years before that An official Labour Party press release announcing Mr McDonald’s retirement did not say who was to succeed him as secretary. Mr McDonald’s first position in Labour Party organisations was as secretary of the Otago Labour Representation Committee in 1937. He was chairman of the Hillside branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants in 1940, and became assistant secretary of the Labour Party in 1941. He has held executive positions on a number of exservicemen’s and sports organisations, including the New Zealand Olympic and British Commonwealth Games’ Association and the New Zealand Bowling Association, of which he is Still president
