WELLINGTON.
New Zealand will get a blow-by-blow commentary from the ringside and later a delayed telecast of the world heavy-weight title fight between Joe Frazier and Cassius Clay at Madison Square Garden, New York.
The fight is due to start at 5 p.m. New Zealand time on Tuesday, March 9. A statement from the N.Z.B.C. said that the corp oration had arranged for exclusive rights for television and radio cover. The commentators in New York for the radio link will be Don Dunphy, Burt Lancaster and Sugar Ray Robinson.
Agreement was reached yesterday for a videotape of the bout to be flown to New Zealand soon after the fight ends.
It will probably be shown
on television the following day, according to a spokesman of Champions, Inc., promoters of the bout, in New York. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
There is still no agreement to enable viewers in Australia to see the fight, the spokesman said. Negotiations for Australian rights to the telecast were broken off late last week in the absence of an acceptable offer.
Under agreements so far concluded, fight fans in about 30 countries and territories round the world are assured of seeing the contest.
