’Quake on Coast

(From Our Own Reporter)

WESTPORT, Feb. 23.

The Buller district experienced its sharpest earthquake for some time at 7.20 a.m. yesterday. It was of a rolling type but not severe enough to cause alarm or damage.

The tremor was felt in Reefton. It was the first felt in the area for many months. The heavy jolt spilled bottles from shop shelves. A slight tremor was felt in Hokitika at 7.22 a.m. but it went unnoticed by many residents.

It was also lightly felt in Greymouth and at Inangahua Junction.
