PRISONER CAUGHT

An 18-year-old prisoner who escaped from the Grey-mouth-to-Christchurch railcar when it stopped at Springfield on Friday evening, was recaptured 10 hours later. He is John McKinnon Donnelly, who was being escorted to Christchurch to face a charge of car conversion. Donnelly was caught at Racecourse Hill, 10 miles away, by a constable who chased him for two miles along a railway line. He had appeared in the Greymouth Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with unlawfully getting into an allegedly converted vehicle and was remanded to appear in the Christchurch Court today.
