North Canterbury won its way into the semi-finals of the A.N.Z. Bank knock-out cricket competition, beating High. School Old Boys in a quarter-final at Rangiora yes. terday.
After three wickets fell for 28 runs, a fine recovery, led by the aggressive R." Newton (41), enabled North Canterbury to reach 190 for nine at the end of. 40 overs. R. C. Merrin and R. Sowden kept an accurate attack against which the Old Boys batsmen were unable to score quickly. C. L. Bull was the only, one to bat confidently and his 61 not out was a fine effort. Old Boys needed 26 runs in the last over to win but scored only five, and at the close was 170 for seven.
