Feb. 23 likely for session
(From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. Beyond saying that Parliament would be called “as early as is practicable,” the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake) gave no indication at the week-end as to when this would'be. He indicated that this was a matter the Cabinet would consider on Monday. Looking jaded after his six-hour caucus session, Sir Keith Holyoake said that the present Chairman of Committees (Mr A. E. Allen) would be Speaker during the absence of Sir Roy Jack overseas, and that Mr J. R. Harrison would be Chairman of Committees. Sir Keith Holyoake indi-
cated that apart from the wage stabilisation legislation, some other bills would be introduced, so that they could be passed to select committees for stufiy during the recess. ' “It will be a short session,” he said. “Two weeks should be adequate, but there may be an overflow.” February 23 still seems the likeliest date for commencement of the session. This would depend on how close to completion is the draft of the new legislation. The extension of the reporting-time of several committees is inevitable. It is not known whether the report of the Manapouri committee will be presented during the early sitting.
