Otago won the South Island under-21 inter - provincial’ stroke-play championship at Otatara during the week-end-with a four-round aggregate of 879. This was eightl strokes better than Canterbury.
Mid-South Canterbury was a distant third on 918, and Southland brought up the rear With 926.
The Otago team comprised J. Marka (Freyberg representative) C. Alldred, R. Johnson ■and D. Fraser. The individual honours I went to the Canterbury ■player, G. Titmus. Over the ■par-73 course he had rounds of 70, 72, 73, and 76 for a Total of 291. This was four strokes better than Fraser, i whose rounds of 80, 73, 70, ■and 72 gave him an aggregate of 295. I After Saturday Canteri bury led Otago by two | strokes, but the Otago quaritet applied pressure yesterday, and had an advantage of six strokes after the third round.
Apart from Fraser, the Otago scores were Mackav 297 (71, 72, 78, 76), Johnson 299 (76, 73, 74, 76), and Alldred 302 (76, 80, 73, 73).
Mid-South Canterbury’s leading scorer was the Freyberg representative, J. Barbour. He began with a disasterous 81, but then shot 73, 74, and 76 for 304. The best of the Southland team was P. McCartney, with 310 (76, 76, 178, 80).
