Gambling ring broken

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Feb. 6. The F. 8.1. said today that it had broken a SUS6O million a year gambling set-up when it arrested 56 persons in eight states. The director of the F. 8.1. (Mr J. Edgar Hoover) said that some of the evidence leading to the arrests had been obtained from wire-tap-ping authorised by United States district courts. Today’s arrests were made during raids in Washington, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. They came at the end of a 12-month investigation of illegal book-keeping on horses and on numbers, and lottery operations.
