Drinking statistics

Twenty-five per cent of those admitted to Pentridge prison, Melbourne, each year were imprisoned for drunkenness, according to a leading Melbourne social worker. The chairman of the Buoyancy Foundation of Victoria, Mr P. J. Brusey, told summer school students that 4000 of the 16,000 men who passed through the gates of the prison every year were convicted of being drunk and disorderly.—Sydney. February 3.
