Men escape death
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, February 3. Two elderly men escaped death today when the cat they were driving was squashed almost flat by a load of rolling logs. John Pritchard, aged 68, of Rotorua, was taken to the Rotorua Hospital with frac tured ribs, and William Kane, aged 70, of Auckland, was ad mitted with a broken arm. The two men were the occupants of a car involved in an accident with a logging truck and another car. At 11.10 a.m. a logging truck travelling from Rotorua was rounding a bend when its trailer unit came adrift. Logs fell off the trailer, and some of them struck the car while others rolled down the road and struck another car. Police, fire and ambulance services who rushed- to the scene from Putaruru were amazed to find that the two occupants of the first car were relatively uninjured. It took only a short time to ex-t-icate the men from the car Assistance was given by passing motorists and tw< doctors who were passing.
