Labour survey

A national survey to define the role of women In the country’s labour force will be conducted this week by members of the Society for Research on Women in New Zealand. The president of the Christchurch branch of the society (Mrs Ann Hercus) said 260 employers in Christchurch would be asked to take part iin the survey, which would be held in the four main centres and Hamilton. Mrs Hercus said that over 2000 employer organisations would be approached throughout the country, and it was hoped that all would agree to participate since the results of the study were awaited with interest by many national planning and advisory bodies. The survey will cover all major industrial groups and employers would remain anonymous. Using a questionnaire prepared by society members qualified in sociology, interviewers will probe employment policies relating to the nature of the work, opportunities for women, jobtraining, and attitudes to equal pay. Interviews will take place during the first two weeks in March. A report on the findings of the study would be published jointly by the society and the National Advisory | Council on the Employment of Women, Mrs Hercus said.
