HANDICAPPED CHILDREN

New committee set up (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb 3. A committee including specialists in paediatrics, orthopaedcs, child psychiatry, preschool and special education, antisocial work has been established by the Board of Health to assist handicapped children. Its function will be to assess the variety of services and facilities available in New Zealand to handicapped children, and to ensure that the most efficient use is made of them.

To help it with recommendations on future needs, the committee is appealing to organisations, agencies, and narents of handicapped children for constructive suggestions, being particularly anxious to hear from parents who know from their own experience where existing services may be lacking. The committee is under the chairmanship of the Director of the Hospitals Division of the Department of Health (Dr H. J. H. Kiddie ston).
