VOLUNTEER FIREMEN
Payment may be sought (N.Z Press Association/ NELSON, Feb 3. The question of reimbursing volunteer firemen and their employers is to be raised by the Nelson Fire Board at the fire Authorities Association’s annual conference in May. The chairman of the board. Mr E. Pearce, said at its meet ing today: “If we are to continue to recruit volunteers into the brigade there must be some form of reimbursement for time off to employees attending fires, or to employers for work lost." One of the members, Mr K. Sargison, who suggested that the matter be raised at the annual conference, said that all fire authorities throughout New Zealand were faced with the same problem.
