Hockey changes proposed for next season

A recommendation seeking to restrict the men’s senior hockey competition next season to two full rounds, and with a further round for the top and bottom four teams, will be made to the annual meeting of the Canterbury Hockey Association next month. The C.H.A.s management commttee has recommended the change expressing the hope that sponsorship could be obtained for the split competition and that awards ■ would be made after the final i games. An extensive report outlin-

ing the coaching programme for the 1971 season was submitted by the chairman (Mr T. I. Crossen). All grades will get coaching with particular emphasis on primary schoolboys, and regular sessions will be held for senior colts and lower grade representative sides. The C.H.A. will also ask the New Zealand association to promote coaching at school level because it felt the standard at last year’s national Hatch Cup (schoolboys) and colt’s tournaments was not as high as it might have been.
