Riccarton too strong for Avonside
Superior play by Riccarton enabled it to defeat the young Avonside I side, 10-2, during the ninth round of the senior table tennis competition last night. R, Mercer gave his best performance since transferring to Christchurch by defeating Avonside’s trio of promising juniors. J. Armstrong also finished the final match with an unbeaten record, having avenged his first round loss from M. Burrowes. Avonside II firmly established itself in fourth position with a well played, 9-3, victory over Wallabies. R. V. Jackson recorded his sixth consecutive singles win during the second round by beating all members of the Wallabies side. t In the remaining contests, Dallington beat Selwyn, 10-2, and University tightened its grip on the lead by beating Linwood, 10-2.
