TRAMPERS SAFE

The party of Boys’ Brigade trampers bushed without food o. water in the Southern Alps since the week-end arived safely at Arthur’s Pass yesterday. The leader of the party. Mr B. Steare, of 7 Kinnaird Place, Halswell, and two of the teen-age trampers with him were flown out by Royal New Zealand Air Force Sioux helicopter. Mr Steare had fallen ill from exposure and a stomach complaint, but his condition improved rapidly after his rescue.

Ground parties of Arthur’s Pass National Park Board rangers were flown in to accompany the two remaining boys on their return trek through rugged, heavilybushed country in the Savannah Range. Two other members of the party walked out. at the Andrews shelter on Tuesday evening, where they told rangers of the location of the remainder of the group.
