Flood toll in N.S.W.
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY, February 3. Two people, including a child aged 11 months, have been drowned, and two others are missing, as floodwaters continue to sweep over thousands of acres of New South Wales.
Thousands of people in country towns in the northwest of the state were taken to safety when swollen rivers poured unchecked across valuable grazing land. The baby. Deanne Kelly, was drowned when she fell into floodwaters below a shop veranda in the small township of Wee Waa, about 350 miles north-west of Sydney yesterday. A few miles away, rescue workers found the body of Mr George McGrady, aged 41, an Aboriginal shearer who was swept off a stranded vehicle at a creek crossing. Two stockmen are missing in a flooded area of farmland 10 miles from Wee Waa.
