First strike in Greece
(NZ.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SERRAI (Greece), Feb. 2. About 100 building workers today held Greece’s first strike since the Army seized power in April, 1967. The stoppage was by employees of a building company in support of demands for the immediate payment of two months overdue wages. They gathered at the offices of their federation and sent out cables of protest calling on the military-supported Government to intervene and force the company to pay. Under the Government’s Constitution of September, 1968, strikes are prohibited in Greece if they are held for political reasons or “other ends irrelevant to material or moral interests of the workers.”
