Giles family reunion

A reunion of descendants of Mr and Mrs Lancelot Giles, who arrived at Clarkville in 1856, was held at Rice Park, Clarkville, on Sunday. Held as an evening social, this 115th anniversary was a picnic gathering of about 120 adults and children. A family tree and details from burial registers at Kaiapoi, Clarkville and Eyreton, compiled by Mesdames C. Frost and E. Mclntosh, created much interest. The most senior woman present was Mrs Bob Giles, aged 87, of Rangiora, and the most senior man, Mr Len Giles, aged 86, of Clarkville. Visitors were welcomed by Mr and Mrs V. Giles, of Clarkville, who farm part of the original property,, and races were later held for the children. Future annual reunions will also be held on the last Sunday in January.
