DIRECTOR OF G.A.T.T.

Visit to N.Z. planned (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 1. The Director-General of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (Dr Olivier 'Long), will visit New Zealand from February 8 to 14, the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall), announced today. Dr Long has been invited by the Government to gain some first-hand knowledge of New Zealand, its way of life and economic structure. He will be accompanied by his wife. Mr Marshall said that Dr Long was closely associated with all aspects of the work of GA.T.T., including efforts to obtain an international agreement on the marketing of dairy products. It was particularly valuable to meet Dr Long at a time when New Zealand was working towards an enlargement of the scope of the G.A.T.T. multi-lateral arrangement already negotiated for milk powder, said Mr Marshall.

Dr and Mrs Long will see aspects of farming, dairy products processing, forestry and the use of geothermal steam. Dr Long will be in Wellington on February 11 and will attend a meeting of the Cabinet committee on overseas trade policy.
