TROTTING Championship horses at Forbury tonight

Four candidates for the pacing section and three in the trotting section of the Inter-Dominion Championship series, which opens next week at Addington Raceway, will compete on the second night of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s festival meeting today. '

In addition, three pacers and four trotters with the right of re-entry to the championship heats in the event of scratchings made before 3 p.m. next Monday are engaged this evening.

About four months ago Boy Friend was one of the early favourites for the championship series as a result 6f several record-breaking runs last season.

However, a winning run has been beyond him so far, and he has dropped from favour—particularly in view of his rather suspect barrier behaviour. There is little doubt that

he will only have to make a reasonably clean beginning to be the hardest to beat in the Southern Cross Handicap—the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double, but he could be at reasonable odds after his failure in the Raceway Pace, a mobile start race for which he was favourite on the first night of the meeting. He broke at the start and was never in a challenging position. Likely favourite The probable favourite for tonight’s race will be Rain Again, an impressive third to Morano Lad and Manawaru on Saturday night This Fallacy five-year-old has had four wins and five platings for $6220 this season, and he has shown splendid form over all distances. He will have to show very little improvement on Saturday’s run to be the main danger tonight.

The Southlander, BobbyBlue, did not receive a good run on Saturday, and did well for sixth behind Morano Lad. He was a stylish winner three starts ago at Addington Raceway, and will not be out of his depth in this field.

C. C. Devine’s bracket of Inky Boy and Irish Whispers will be in demand. Both look ready to show to advantage in this field.

Van Rover, Soldato, and Sam Again are on the reserve list in the championship heats, and they should do as well as any of the others, although a bold showing from Alandria will not surprise. Drawn well The mobile start in the Waverley Pace—the second leg of the main double—will in particular suit Dwayne and Venfall, both tardy beginners from a stand. Dwayne was placed on Saturday after losing a big stretch of ground at the start, and Venfall won easily in a slower class after giving R. Young a rather anxious drive over the first furlong or so. Venfall has drawn No. 1 and Dwayne No. 5, which should enable both of them to escape any skirmish which might occur in the early rush for positions.

Old Timer, Hal Strada, Loyal Peter, and Mister Smart are others certain to race prominently. Le Char, Johnny Fling and Logan Park are championship trotters engaged in the Otago Handicap, the other acceptors for which include Philemon, Someday, Doctor Scott, and Direct Jan, which are awaiting re-entry to the series. Paroa, Philemon, and Logan Park form a likely trio, but they can expect spirited opposition from Le Char, Johnny Fling and Western Valley. '

The on-course concession 1 double will be run on the 1 Welcome Pace and the 1 Roslyn Handicap; Whipochet, ’ from W. R. Butt’s team, and ■ Heatherloch, a stablemate of the first ieg fancy, Rain Again, forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast | and the track will be firm.
