MAKING MARK

Madrussan in Sydney The former Canterbury and Christchurch United leftwing, F. Madrussan, has quickly made his mark in Australian soccer, according to a report in a Sydney newspaper. Madrussan, who left Christchurch early last month, has signed for the senior Sydney club, Apia-Leichhardt, and has already played twice for the club. He shared in a 1-0 victory over Hakoah and scored in Apia’s 4-2 win against Western Suburbs.

The Apia coach, W. Tamandl, has been impressed with Madrussan’s ability. “There is room for improvement, of course, but young Franko is going to be one of the finds of the season,” Tamandl was quoted as saying in the newspaper report. The Italian-born Madrussan —he came to New Zealand when he was five years old —has thus joined an Italianbased club. He said, before leaving, that he wanted to spend a year in Australia, after which he would probably return to Christchurch.
