Porsche wins (N.Z. Press Assn.— Cop»rijht) DAYTONA BEACH (Florida). P Rodriguez (Mexico) sped past a flame-spitting Ferrari in the last 46 minutes of the day to win Sunday’s gruelling 24-hour Daytona spprts car race on the 3.81 mUe road course at the Daytona international speedway. After holding a lead at one stage of 23 miles, Rodriguez and his codriver J. Oliver (Britain) sat helplessly for 93 minutes with transmission problems as the American drivers Bucknum and A. Adamowlci chipped away at their Porsche’s lead. Holding what seemed an Insurmountable lead, the Porsche had to enter the pits for Ihr 3min to have a gear replaced. When it got back on the track, it was three laps behind the Ferrari Fl2 driven by Bucknum and Adamowicz. But in Just a few minutes, the Porsche roared back into the lead. The Ferrari Fl2 by then was having Ignition problems and shooting fire from its tailpipe. Third was another Ferrari, driven by M. Donohue (U.S.A.) and D. Hobbs (Britain).
