AIR N.Z. ORDER
s3m flight simulator (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTREAL, Jan. 6. Air New Zealand has ordered a DCIO-30 aircraft flight simulator, costing about $3.2m, from C.A.E. Electronics, Ltd, of Montreal. The order includes the new C.A.E. visual simulation system being developed in conjunction with C.B.S. Laboratories, of Stamford, Connecticut, to meet the requirements for training pilots to fly the aircraft of the 19705.
The visual system will provide pilots with a full colour view of an airport and surrounding terrain during taxiing, take-off, approach and landing in the simulator.
It involves the projection of pictures on to a screen in front of the cockpit windshield. The scene is precisely what the pilot would see if he were in an actual aircraft performing identical flight manoeuvres at the real airport. The president of C.A.E. Electronics (Mr R. W. Cooke) said the newly-equipped simulator would be delivered to Air New Zealand’s flight training centre at Auckland in 1972.
