Home ties forgotten
The suggestion of the national cricket coach, M. J. Horton, that good players not required for a provincial team should be available for a weaker side, so that the top players were all kept in the game, does not new seen likely to bear fruit. Already, however, there is a rapid inter-change in players for business reasons, and home ties are very soon forgotten then. Canterbury has T. W. Jarvis, who has played .Junket Shield cricket for Auckland; M. L. Ryan has been a Central Districts player; K. I. Ferries came from Australia; last season N. A. Huxford was in the side, and he hailed from Wellington. V. Pollard played most of his cricket with Central Districts.
The present Otago captain, G. D. Alabaster, has already represented Canterbury and Northern Districts; B. Andrews has played for Canterbury and Central Districts. In this season’s Central team, there is R. M. Gearry, formerly of Canterbury, and Wellington’s. team includes the former Canterbury representatives J. D. Riley. B. R. Taylor and B. A. Bolton. Otago has G. M. Turner, Northern Districts has Horton, both Worcestershire players. Last season Northern had R. W. Anderson, of Canterbury. This summer, Auckland includes J. M. Mclntyre, who played several seasons for Canterbury, D. Neely and R. E. Redmond of Wellington.
