HAWKE CUP DEFENCE

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Taranaki will make its first defence of the Hawke Cup when it meets Ashburton at Pukekura Park next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The secretary of the Taranaki Cricket Association (Mr B. S. E. Bellringer) said the association did not want to have its first defence until later in the season, but the New Zealand Cricket Council had directed Taranaki to play Ashburton, the third challenger, during the New Year period.
