WORSE TO COME?

By the end of the century, Central Districts may be reaching four-figure totals against Canterbury. For the last decade Central’s first-innings scores at Laneaster Park have improved steadily. In 1960-61, the total was a useful 288. Then, playing in Christchurch at two-year intervals, it has progressed to 320, 381 for seven declared, 410, 417, and now 420.

Added to this is a score of 469 for nine at Napier three seasons ago—so that Central has taken more than 400 from Canterbury bowling four times in the last five seasons.
