Tomray picked in mile
“The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND. Th® presence in the field of Sharivarl and the fine Hawera galloper, Tomray, will draw widespread interest to the $B2OO George Adams Handicap on the fourth day of the Auckland. Racing Club's meeting today. .Tomray has been impressive in his training since he arrived at Ellerslie last week for this
one race, and he looks the hardest to beat. A five-year-old gelding, Tomray looked ready for a quick return in his last attempt over seven furlongs at Awapuni on December 19. That was his second race after a fair spell and he has evidently continued his improvement. Tomray was at Ellerslie last autumn and made a big impression when an unlucky third in the Easter Handicap, a ipile, and second over 11 furlongs in the Oliver Nicholson Handicap. Tomray has Bst 101 b in the George Adams Handicap, 101 b less than Sharivarl which is the top-weight with 9st 51b. Sharivari has been raised 71b on the weight with which he won the Railway Handicap, six furlongs, yesterday. He seems very likely to go well again all the same. Lancastrian, which finished second in the Christmas Handicap on Boxing Day, Long Shot, Harleigh March, and Corrandulla are other notable acceptors. Simon, de Montfort, a stablemate of Tomray, will make his third attempt on a big stake at the meeting in the Nathans Memorial over a mile and a quarter. Simon de Montfort was one of the failures of the Auckland Cup but he shaped pretty well last Saturday when third over a mile and a half in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap. Too Bad, Shantung and Papahu look his toughest opponents this time. The Nathans Memorial and the George Adams Handicap will be the T.A.B. concession double. There will be an on-course concession double on the Waitemata Handicap and the New Year High-weight. The weather has continued fine and warm but the forecast is for showers. . Selections:—
