Jews in Russia

Sir, —"By their deeds you will know them.” Russia has once again shown that its feeling for human rights is merely propaganda. Those of us who have been attempting to obtain the release of “prisoners of conscience” from Russia and from Spain know the frustrations involved in the complete official silence, and refusal to consider, of the Soviet authorities. In Spain, at least, official contact is made, and prisoners can communicate with well-wishers. “Tass” would do well to ponder on their description of Basque trials as "disgraceful mockery of justice.”—Yours, etc., M. O’NEILL. December 29, 1970.
