Stale food alleged
Many examples of stale, unsound food being offered for sale to the public, and laxity in food-handling techniques by Kaikoura retailers have been reported by the Kaikoura County health inspector (Mr R. W. Sutherland). Persons in Kaikoura were afraid to complain if they received unclean food, and
consequently no prosecutions could be made, Mr Sutherland told the Kaikoura County Council at Its December meeting. Licences for food premises came up for renewal each year and they could not sell food without a licence, he said. Some premises caused concern because of the state of their yards. They would have to be cleaned up and the standard of food-handling
improved. The chairman (Mr V. J. Corbett) said that the health inspector would have the support of the council for any action he took. .
