Australia’s newest girl swimming star, Shane Gould, aged 14, beat the world women’s distance re-cord-holder, K. Moras, over 100 metres at the Sydney metropolitan championships at the week-end.

Miss Gould equalled her Australian junior record of 6l.ssec in beating Miss Moras by 2sec. Earlier, she had equalled her pending under-14 record of 61.6 sec in winning an age-group sprint
