Church hit twice

The St Peter’s Anglican Church in Yaldhurst Road, Upper Riccarton, was struck twice within 24 hours yesterday—once by burglars and once by vandals.

Christchurch detectives said last evening that four ruby stones were stolen from the candle-holders in the altar of the church on Sunday night. The value of the jewels is not known. Some time between 4.45 p.m. and 7.45 p.m. yesterday vandals entered the church and damaged the altar to a value of about $3O.
