Bogus health inspector

A man masquerading as a Christchurch City Council health inspector has entered at least two homes in Spreydon in the last few days. The Town Clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) said last evening that the owners of the homes had telephoned the council asking if the man was an inspector. He was not.

They said that the man, sturdy, and of Pacific Islands or Maori extraction, had asked to inspect their houses, and had been admitted. The householders had been suspicious, however, and decided to check his identity. Mr Hayes said that all council health inspectors carried identification, and would produce this on demand.
