Big building blocks road

(N.Z. Press Association) WAIPUKURAU, Dec. 21. A permit to remove a 1620 sq. ft by 20ft high building from the Pukeora home for the disabled at Waipukurau has been revoked by the Ministry of Transport after the 60ft-long, 26ft-wide structure slipped from its transporter at the top of the Pukeora hill, about three miles south of the town on the main highway. The massive building was bound for Porangahau beach to be converted to a holiday home for Waipawa Hospital Board staff. On Thursday the contractors struck one problem after another in their initial efforts. However, the journey to Porangahau finally began at 4 a.m. today but after only 400 yards the building slipped from the transporter. - It was still block’ng the highway this afternoon and traffic had to be diverted through back-country roads.
