N.Z. OPEN TENNIS

New dates accepted (N.Z. Press Assn.—copyright) LONDON. The International Lawn Tennis Federation has agreed to the revised dates submitted by New Zealand officials for an open tournament in Auckland next year, the president (Mr B. Barnett) said yesterday. Mr Barnett said the I.L.T.F. had refused a previous New Zealand request to hold an open tournament from March 1-7, because of a clash with the Asian championships in Calcutta.

But, he said, New Zealand subsequently revised its requested dates to February 22-28, and these had been accepted by the I.L.T.F. “International rules state that two official open tournaments cannot be held at the same time,” Mr Barnett said. “We were sorry to have to turn down the earlier New Zealand request, but I heard today they had proposed to hold their tournament a week earlier and this has been accepted.”
