TRIBUTE TO MR G. BURNS

A tribute to Mr G. Bums who died in Christchurch recently, was paid by the Shirley Boys’ High School board at its monthly meeting this week. Mr Bums was a member of the board from its institution in October, 1957, and chairman from 1959 to March, 1961.

The present chairman of the board (Professor C. J. Wilkins) said that Mr Bums was a great exponent of the processes of democracy. He brought to bear a point of view that was both refreshing and fundamental in approach. The board agreed to set up a sub-committee consisting ot Dr D. L. Croop and the headmaster (Mr M. K. Denholms) to look into the fire emergency system in the school’s hall.

In his report Mr Denholme said that the school would be fully staffed for next year.
