Waltham pool

Sir, —The lifeguards at our swimming pools do a wonderful job; but could someone tell me why some boys and girls were told to leave the Waltham pool when all they did was to talk to their friends through the fence? This happened several times during the day, and people standing on the footpath looking in were also told to move on. Most of the teenagers at this pool are just at the troublesome age. I think Aranui and Hoon Hay could do with a recreation area like this. Please do try to help these people. Don’t make them rebel. —Yours, etc., WORRIED. November 16, 1970. [The City Council’s pools superintendent (Mr S. B. Mason) replies: “No-one is asked to leave the Waltham pool purely on account of having discussions through the fence. The pool attendant would certainly have other reasons for taking this action and it is suggested that your correspondent discuss the incidents mentioned with the pool supervisor at Waltham.”]
