CHILDREN BLAMED

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 18. A rapidly increasing minority of emotionally disturbed, rude, and irresponsible reluctant learners in schools was a major cause for teachers leaving the profession, the princpal of James Cook High School, Manurewa (Mr M. S. Lane) said in his annual report today. These children had a devastating influence in a classroom, he said. The situation was not helped when the school, which was expected to set and maintain reasonable standards of conduct, dress and behaviour, found itself sandwiched between the double standards of the adult community. It was becoming increasingly difficult for teachers to kndw what standards parents expected and What was the clear definition of the school’s responsibility.
