Easier trend more marked
The easier trend of the New Zealand sharemarket was accelerated on the stock exchanges yesterday, when falls outnumbered rises almost two to one, with leaders predominantly weaker. Spectulatives also lost ground Turnover was moderate.
New Zealand Express rose 22c, the best gain of the day; the company was queried by the stock exchange, and replied that it did not know of any reason for it. Radio Hauraki, Amalgamated Batteries, Dunlop and U.D.C. also had good gains. Consolidated Brick firmed Ic. Among the falls were noted N.Z. Forest Products, Tasman, U.E.8., Fletcher, Wattie, N.Z. Steel. New Zealand News, Rothmans, C.F.M., Alcan, Harvey, and T. J. Edmonds. The overseas list was also weak but Kathleen Investments stood out with a gain of 60c to 1760 c.
