(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT. “The council appears to be the only section of the community to benefit from the poorest whitebait season in Buller,” said the Mayor of Westport (Mr W. A. Craddock), when it was revealed that slaughtering fees at the municipal abattoir in October had increased from $659 in 1969 to $1044.38 last month, and that the sharp decline for some months in stock killed had been arrested. “It does seem that the people have had to turn more to meat in the last three months,” he said.
