Alternative to tax suggested
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGON, Nov. 17. I The Municipal Electricity Supply Authorities’ Association has suggested the use of profits from electricity distribution as an alternative to the proposed petrol tax as a solution to local body revenue problems. This is in line with the association’s policy proposing that control of the distribution of electricity should be in the hands of territorial local authorities, with the right to distribute surpluses among the constituent members. “The thought of distributing a surplus earned as the result of efficient trading has, in my opinion, more to Commend it than the imposition of a commodity tax,” the association’s president (Mr E. Whittleston) said in a supplied statement.
