Important change of date approved

A precedent of tremendous importance to trotting clubs will be created at Hutt Park Raceway on March 6,1971, when the Wellington Trotting Club holds a night meeting after a meeting of the Wellington Racing Club at Trentham on the same day.

A decision to allow this change of date for the trotting club was made at a recent meeting of the combined committee of the Racing Conference and the Trotting Conference held in Wellington. Approval of the decision by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) was reported to a meeting of the executive of the Trotting Conference, held yesterday in Christchurch. The Wellington club originally applied to race on March 3,5, and 9, but the Friday night date was changed to the Saturday. The meeting would normally have been run in February, but because of the Inter Dominion Championship series at Addington Raceway, the Wellington club

sought a change to March. Occasionally trotting clubs have suggested racing on the night after a galloping meeting in the same city, but this has been strenuously opposed by galloping officials. Should the trotting meeting at Hutt Park on March 6 be successful, other metropolitan trotting clubs may seek permission to race at night after galloping meetings in the same cities and towns.
