Horticulturist to visit

1 One of England's most celebrated horticulturists, Mrs Francis Perry, will be in Christchurch on Saturday in the course of a brief visit to • New Zealand. The same evening she will deliver the Barnett memorial lecture in the Horticultural {Hall. Mrs Percy is a member of the council of the Royal Horticultural Society of Great ' Britain—the first and only iwoman so elected since the [society was formed in 1904. Mrs (Perry is on a world itour provided by the Garden Clubs of America in appreciation of the 46 lectures she igave there. She will be travelling with a party of 10— ; all members of these clubs. In 1962 Mrs Perry was {awarded the M.B.E. and in 1965 the horticulturist socijety’s Veitch Gold Medal for her serwces to horticulture. She is president of the Women’s Farm and Garden Association of Great Britain and for 16 years has had her own television programme. She is the gardening correspondent of the Sunday “Observer.”

Books she has written include “Water Gardening,” “Guide to Border Plants,” and “Gardening in Colour.” She has just completed, after three years work, “Flowers of the World,”-with the artist Leslie Greenwood.
