CALL TO F.L.Q.

Mrs Cross on radio (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTREAL, October 27. Mrs Barbara Cross, wife of the British diplomat kidnapped by French-Cana-dian extremists more than three weeks ago, today begged the Quebec Liberation Front to free him without delay.

She broadcast two messages over Montreal’s French language radio station CKLM —one in English to her husband, the Trade Commissioner, Mr James (Jasper) Cross, abducted from his Montreal home on October 5; the other, to his kidnappers, in French.

In her appeal, Mrs Cross said: “I want to express my confidence that as a victim of circumstances, he will be well-treated. I beg them (the F.L.Q.) to set him free without delay.” Mrs Cross broadcast the messages herself over the radio, which had offered its facilities for such an approach.

There have been no communications from Mr Cross or his captors for nine days. Mrs Cross told her husband: “It is now more than a week since I have heard from you—you are constantly in my thoughts and you must know how much I long for your safe return.

‘lt is agonising to endure the long separation and the long period of waiting, but I am confident that you are still alive and lt has been a great consolation for me to be able w read your letters.”
