United Nations
Sir, —The League of Nations; United Nations. Next step, world government. This was foreseen and prophesied by the Persian philosopher, Baha’u’llah, but until members of the existing organisation can show unity of purpose there is little hope of such a body coming into being. With more than a quarter of the world’s population still outside the United Nations, world government is impossible until nations have learnt the lesson that race, colour, and culture do not constitute a barrier to understanding and unity. At the present time it is the fashion to deride the United Nations for its inability to settle national disputes, but, it must be bom in mind that over the last 25 years it has increased a certain stabilising influence on world affairs, and, if liquidated with no international organisation to take its place, the catastrophe that would surely overtake the world is impossible to imagine.—Yours, etc., ~ R. J. GLEN. October 26, 1970.
