Murchison well at 10,000ft

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, Oct. 18. The Bounty No. 1 oil well near Murchison has “broken the 10,000 ft barrier,” according to a company spokesman on Friday. The depth was passed yesterday after 113 days of drilling, since the exploratory well was Spudded in on June 24. There had been no further shows of gas since the one encountered at high pressure at 9819 ft more than two weeks ago, the spokesman said.

The rig was now drilling towards the target depth of 10,500 ft.
