E.E.C. plans emphasised

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter —Copyright) BLACKPOOL, Oct 11.

Replying to criticism, chiefly from Australia and New Zealand, of Britain’s possible Common Market membership, the British Prime Minister (Mr Heath) said yesterday: “The Commonwealth can only thrive if all its members realise that Britain, like themselves- -xijoys full independence or action.”

Speaking at the Conservative Party’s annual conference, at Blackpool, Mr Heath continued: “Whatever arguments we in Britain may have among ourselves, British policy is and is going to remain a matter for decision by the British Government.” There should be no delay in pressing on with negotiations for Britain’s entry, which, on the right terms, would be in the long-term interests of Britain, the British people and of Europe—and also in the long-term interests of the Commonwealth, Mr Heath said.
