Batting slump

5 Solid batting from A. M. Mc- ? Kendry and a vigorous display 1 by R. E. Gearry gave Lancaster - Park prospects of setting WestUniversity a tidy total, but the score plummetted from- 85 for two to 127 all out, as Sharp's flight and spin confounded batsman after batsman. Gearry played with tremendous confidence, used his feet i well, hit the ball hard, and . served notice that he is in for a good season. He was unlucky : to lose sight of the ball after it . had jammed* between bat and pad, which led to his being , stumped. McKendry was also unfortunate, being bowled off his i body by a ball which did not . deserve a wicket. These rever- ► ses had an extremely depressing effect, and Sharp’s skill and ext perience exploited the batting fallibility splendidly. After the early loss of C. W. 1 Garrod, West-University had to , fight for its runs against a keen I and tight attack. But both . Dowling and T.
