Theatre Royal
Sir,—Going to the Theatre Royal to see “The Secretary Bird,” we found the evening spoiled by the uncomfortable seating. Even in the local picture theatres the seats are 100 per cent better. Most of our party were sft Bin tall, and we could not even sit down without our knees pushing through the seats in front. How would taller people get on? I feel the management should do something to ensure that the public are comfortable when paying large prices for shows which can use only this theatre.—Yours, etc., SARDINE. October 5, 1970.

Williamson Theatres, Ltd, replies: “Our Theatre Royal in Christchurch is recognised as one of the best theatres in the Southern Hemisphere and it is somewhat puzzling that a person of sft Bin should complain of lack of room when many of our patrons over the years would have been 6ft and over and none has ever expressed dissatisfaction ■on the seating. Perhaps your correspondent sat in the gallery which obviously can never be as comfortable as the rest of the theatre, but a much lower charge is made for gallery
